Wendy Twinn
Wendy embodies what fans know to be the “United Family”. There are few jobs around the Abbey Stadium that Wendy hasn’t volunteered to do or to help with, be it during the week or on a match day. Wander around the ground and, at some point, you are likely to bump into Wendy. Invariably she will be fixing, tidying, painting, clearing out, watering or cleaning, whatever jobs need doing that day.
Most members of staff at Cambridge United – be it management, directors, coaches or players - know Wendy and will stop to pass the time of day with her. Each one would call Wendy a friend, not just a friend of the club
.
She started supporting Cambridge United in the 1950s, and has been around the club throughout its rise up the football ladder. She has ridden the many bumps in the road the club has negotiated since, enjoying the bad times with the same smile, the same enthusiasm as the good times. She takes the well-used term ‘supporter’ to its limits,
following the team home and away and sponsoring her favourite U’s players year after year.
The Abbey Stadium is never quite the same when Wendy is not around. She fully deserves her place in the Cambridge United Hall of Fame.
