Medal ground

I don't know where my medals are, said Eric Cantona. Well, we know where the medals William 'Fanny' Freeman won with Abbey United in the 1920s are – or at least photographs of those medals.

Speedy left winger Freeman joined the Wasps for the 1924/25 season and went on to pick up winner's medals in the Cambridgeshire Challenge Cup, the Chatteris Engineering Works Cup, the Cottenham Nursing Cup and the Creake Charity Shield. In 1926/26, Abbey won Division I of the Cambridgeshire League and retained the Creake Charity Shield with a prolific forward line of Frank Luff, Charlie Greaves, Harvey Cornwell, Edward Fuller and Freeman.
