My name is Tim Highmoor and I thought you might be interested to know that many years ago when I lived and went to school in Cambridge ('CSE & O' levels at Chesterton then ‘A' levels in Huntingdon), I supported Cambridge United and was a regular in the Abbey Rd end.
When Anglia TV used to turn up to shoot ’The Big Match’ for itv I would get distracted by their tv trucks & hardware and in particular the cameras. I got to know some of the cameramen well, so much so that they encouraged me to go for an interview in Norwich (their base) which I duly did. They offered me a junior job editing film but I was very keen to do camerawork so instead I contacted other itv companies like Granada TV up in Manchester.
I got a trainee job with Granada in 1980 & very soon on starting filming live football in the North West with commentator Martin Tyler who’d just joined Granada’s sports department. I still see Martin these days where he still commentates for the PLP (premier league productions). What a lovely man.
Nowadays, having worked in many disciplines in the live & recorded tv world, I take regular work for Sky Sports football coverage all around the UK. Mostly we cover the Premier League but I also shoot the EFL & WSL. I've also covered the last two World Cups in Russia & Doha for the Host Broadcaster.
I've just been booked to do my first ever job as a camera operator at my first football club, Cambridge Utd and I am really excited about making a return visit on the 2nd April to the Abbey Stadium. It must be 45 years since my last visit!
I have a couple of transparency photos from the days when I was there with Anglia TV and when Ron Atkinson was manager. Players like Alan Bayley, Steve Spriggs & Malcolm Webster were the big names at that time.
Tim was one of the cameramen at the Swindon match on the 3/4/2026
