Welcome back to the Abbey after another fortnight away and, amongst others, a couple of pretty lucrative trips Essex way. It’s only January but so what? Are we mathematically safe now?! The games are so thick and fast the mighty U’s never seem far away.
Tuesday evening will see us head Salford way which, coming back to today, how blinking appropriate is that? 23 January 2015…….ring any bells, anyone? The Habbin looked truly, beautifully stuffed that night, my abiding memory of the evening. I think if we’re all honest it is not difficult to look back to those days with mixed feelings, particularly the way subsequent events transpired and just ten months later the manager(or whatever he ended up being called) had gone. Still, much to treasure in the programme attached, a second visit to Old Trafford as a result, for a lot of us anyway and nice to remind Gary Lineker and his ilk that little old Cambridge Utd still exist. And probably a swansong for a certain goalie that Friday evening. The scariest thing for me? It’s six years ago now! Enjoy without reservation.
Finally, on this day in 1900 the second Boer War ended in defeat for British forces against troops from the South African Republic and Orange Free State. The battle was better known as the Battle of Spion Kop……..you see there is always a football reference in life somewhere if you look hard enough!
