The match taking place was for the Creake Charity Shield against Histon Institute at Milton Road in front of 1200 spectators
It resulted in victory for United 2-1.
Both Abbey United goals that day were scored by Herbert Smart who was father of the future Cambridge United Chairman Reg Smart.
I wonder how many players who took part that day would have known how events were going to turn out over the coming months and how their lives would change forever?
